About the Department
The department consists of 14 full-time officers, 2 reserve officers, 9 seasonal community service officers, a part-time animal control officer and an administrative assistant. Many of our officers take on special duties, including Detective, School Resource Officer, Special Response Team, the Crisis Intervention Team, the Crisis Negotiation Team and the Peer Support Team.

Officers patrol approximately 49 square miles, of which 20.52 square miles are land and 28.83 square miles are water. While the Town of Kennebunkport is best known as a tourist destination with our scenic beaches, downtown shopping and the home of two former sitting United States Presidents, its working roots run deep from commercial fishing to the sale of lobster and other seafood that is served in local restaurants.

The Kennebunkport Police Department is honored to serve the beautiful Town of Kennebunkport and prides itself in going above and beyond to assist its citizens and many visitors. If you haven’t visited yet, stop by and see this small Town’s charm for yourself!

Our Communications Center

Kennebunkport 9-1-1 calls are answered by the Town of York.  The mission of the Kennebunkport Communications Center is to provide rapid and convenient access to public safety for the citizens of the town, and all those passing through our jurisdiction.

The communications center, which dispatches for the Police, Fire and KEMS Departments, is staffed 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Currently, our staffing level consists of four full-time and several reserve dispatchers.  The dispatcher is also responsible for answering emergency and non-emergency calls for public assistance, animal control, beach patrol, parking control and assistance (including the Dock Square Parking Lot), marine assistance, detective, patrol staff, administration and records, as well as answering Kennebunk Light and Power (KLP) after business hours phone lines. Whether you call or stop in, a dispatcher will be ready to assist you with any situation!

The Department requests that when calling in an EMERGENCY, call 9-1-1 which will be answered by York Police, but when calling for a business related issue or to speak to an officer please utilize our business line (207)-967-2454. Calling 9-1-1 in a non-emergency situation may prevent our Public Safety Dispatchers from answering a true emergency call as quickly as they could have.
